(More customer reviews)I bought this mainly on impulse because of the price at Amazon.The item arrived with all parts intact.Step by step instructions were clear and accurate with photographs.Installation should be straight forward for most.
There is a slight noticeable improvement in torque and acceleration above the 3000 rpm range, although it could be just my imagination due to the better sounding growl.I do not hear a difference in sound below 3000 rpm.I do experience a high pitch whistle that can be heard over my radio.The whistle is not constant and occurs only during slight throttle mostly in the 2000-2500 rpm range.Others on the internet also have reported this whistle noise from a conical filter from K&N and other manufacturers on BMWs and other makes.The noise can be irritating given its high frequency.Unlike the whining sound of a supercharger, which screams more of performance, the whistle noise sounds more like there's a tea kettle under your hood.Others have chosen to live with this whistle, a few actually enjoyed it and others have chosen to go back to stock.Youll have to determine for yourself if it's worth putting up with the whistle for a few extra ponies.
Upon further investigation, the whistle is not caused by the filter itself, but by the air going through the throttle plate at around 2300 rpm.This can be confirmed by removing the cone filter.The whistle is still present and can be localized to the throttle body section.Apparently, this is an issue with the E46 regardless of maker of the CAI.
